Our Community Space

At our center, community is at the heart of everything we do. As part of our Reggio Emilia–inspired approach, we believe children thrive when families feel connected, supported, and welcomed.

Our main lobby was thoughtfully designed as a warm and inviting gathering space for families. Shelves are filled with parenting resources, books, pamphlets, and information about local services available within our community. Our Resource Board shares upcoming family events, workshops, support groups, and other  opportunities to connect and grow together.

After helping their child transition into the classroom, families are encouraged to slow down and enjoy the space. Whether it’s grabbing a cup of coffee, connecting with another parent, or simply taking a quiet moment before the day begins. We hope our center feels like a place of belonging for the whole family.

The Grove

The Grove is a flexible community space thoughtfully designed to support the many ways children learn, grow, and connect. During the day, this welcoming room comes alive with indoor gross motor play, collaborative group experiences, movement activities, and opportunities for children to explore with their whole bodies. It also provides a calm and supportive environment for children receiving individualized services such as occupational therapy (OT) or physical therapy (PT).

Inspired by our Reggio Emilia approach, The Grove was created to adapt to the changing needs of our children, families, and community. In the evenings, the space continues to serve as a place of connection by hosting support groups, family workshops, and pop-up classes that bring people together in meaningful ways.

Just like a grove (a connected collection of trees growing together) The Grove brings together many of the values that are central to the mission of The Willow Center. It is a space where movement, support, connection, inclusion, and community all come together to nurture the growth of children and families alike.

Infants

This classroom is thoughtfully designed to support and nurture each infants development. For many families, this may be a child’s first experience separating from their parent or primary caregiver. We understand that this transition can feel emotional for both children and families. Our educators support this process with sensitivity and care, creating a warm and predictable environment that helps infants build confidence and security in the classroom.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, this environment encourages curiosity, connection, and meaningful interactions. Even our youngest learners are seen as capable, expressive individuals, and our educators thoughtfully observe and respond to their cues to foster early communication and discovery.

Within the classroom, infants are supported in reaching important developmental milestones through intentional, play-based experiences. Fine motor development and hand-eye coordination are a focus. Encouraged through safe, age-appropriate materials such as grasping toys, sensory objects, soft blocks. These everyday interactions build early strength, coordination, and curiosity.

Just as importantly, we prioritize helping infants develop a strong sense of security within the classroom. Consistent routines, familiar caregivers, and gentle responsiveness allow children to feel safe and supported as they begin to explore beyond their home environment. This sense of emotional security becomes the foundation for confidence, curiosity, and lifelong learning.

Our team of experienced, patient educators brings a deep understanding of infant development and a calm, nurturing presence to each day. Beyond the classroom, The Willow Center is a community of support for families. We offer opportunities to connect through new parent, kinship caregiver, and single parent support groups, along with workshops focused on child development, parenting strategies, and infant safety courses.

At every level, we are committed to supporting not just the child, but the whole family—creating a foundation of care, confidence, and connection from the very beginning.

Toddlers

Our Toddler Classroom at The Willow Center is a vibrant, nurturing space where children begin to discover themselves in relation to others and the world around them. At this stage, learning is deeply rooted in exploration, movement, and social connection.

Toddlers are supported as capable learners who are actively making sense of their surroundings. Through thoughtful observation and responsive guidance, educators extend children’s interests and help deepen their understanding.

At The Willow Center, art is centered around the process rather than product. This means the focus is not on creating a specific finished craft or an expected outcome. The focus is on the experience of exploration, sensory engagement, and self-expression.

For toddlers, process art is about discovery—what happens when paint is mixed, how materials feel in their hands, how tools make different marks, and how colors change when combined. Each child engages in their own way, and there is no “right” result. The artwork that emerges is a reflection of their curiosity in that moment, not a template to be copied or completed.

A key focus in our toddler classroom is the development of early friendships and social-emotional skills. Children are gently guided as they learn to navigate sharing, cooperation, and impulse control. Our experienced educators support toddlers in expressing their needs, managing big emotions, and building positive connections with peers; laying the groundwork for strong, healthy relationships.

Preschool

Preschool at The Willow Center is a thoughtfully designed bridge between the toddler years and more structured early learning experiences. We focus on supporting each child through this important transition. Helping them grow in confidence as they begin to engage more deeply with peers, routines, and their environment. Rooted in our Reggio Emilia–inspired approach, children continue to learn through hands-on, play-based experiences that build on their natural curiosity. In this space, educators nurture each child’s development by offering opportunities to explore, create, and make meaning of the world around them while gradually introducing more structure to their day.

In preschool Early STEM and science exploration is also woven throughout the classroom experience. Children are introduced to basic scientific thinking through simple experiments, observation, and prediction. Activities such as exploring sinking and floating, mixing materials, testing structures with blocks, or observing changes in nature help children begin to develop early critical thinking skills.

Physical development and big-body movement are essential components of the preschool experience. Children are given  opportunities for free movement through indoor and outdoor environments. Climbing, jumping, balancing, running, and dancing are all supported as important ways children develop coordination, body awareness, and self-regulation. Educators intentionally design spaces that allow safe risk-taking and active engagement, recognizing that movement is deeply connected to learning at this age.

A key area of growth in the preschool classroom is social development. Children are supported in developing empathy, practicing conflict resolution with friends, and learning to communicate their needs effectively. As they move beyond parallel play, educators guide them toward more associative play experiences, where collaboration and shared ideas begin to take shape.

PreK

PreK at The Willow Center is designed to prepare children for a confident and successful transition into kindergarten; while staying true to our Reggio Emilia inspired philosophy. We balance school readiness with meaningful child-led exploration. Our educators ensure that learning remains engaging, hands-on, and deeply connected to each child’s interests.

In this classroom, children begin to explore the foundations of early literacy. Through storytelling, conversations, and creative expression, they learn to share ideas and make meaning. Educators support children in identifying letters, recognizing sounds, exploring patterns, and building early problem-solving skills—all woven naturally into play-based experiences.

Children are introduced to early STEM learning opportunities that spark curiosity and critical thinking. Through simple science experiments, hands-on exploration, and open-ended materials. Children begin to understand concepts such as cause and effect, prediction, and observation. Educators encourage children to ask questions, form hypotheses, and discover how the world works around them.

As independence grows, children are guided in developing self-regulation, decision-making, and responsibility within the classroom community. Our educators provide thoughtful support as children learn to manage emotions, follow multi-step directions, and engage more fully in both individual and group learning experiences.

The daily rhythm includes a balance of child-led exploration and structured small and large group activities. This allows children to build confidence with routines and expectations similar to those they will encounter in kindergarten. Through this intentional scaffolding, children strengthen the social, emotional, and academic foundations needed for their next step.

With experienced, attentive educators and a nurturing environment, our PreK classroom empowers children to become confident learners, capable thinkers, and active participants in their own learning journey.

School Age

Our School Age Classroom at The Willow Center is a warm, creative, and flexible space designed to support children of mixed ages as they learn, explore, and grow together.

This classroom is thoughtfully equipped with open-ended and engaging materials, including magnet tiles, a wide range of art supplies, hands-on learning tools, and STEM-focused resources that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and imagination. Children are invited to create, build, experiment, and collaborate in ways that feel meaningful to them.

During the summer months, this room becomes home to our intentionally small and connected Summer Camp program, capped at 13 students to ensure a supportive and engaging experience for every child. Looking ahead to Fall 2026, this space will also offer before and after school care, providing consistency, comfort, and community for school-aged children and their families.

During school days, the classroom also serves as a welcoming gathering place for homeschool families—a space for connection, shared learning, and enrichment. Rooted in our Reggio Emilia–inspired philosophy, this room is designed to evolve with the needs of our community.
